Xavi Saldes Playlists

Who is that?

This Is Xavi!

If I were a playlist, the title would be short and sweet (and creative), the description would include a pop culture reference, and the thumbnail would be a late ’90s anime frame with a nostalgic aesthetic

Oh wait, this is exactly how my playlists are!

And except for being short (my hips height doesn’t lie)…  I believe I’m also sweet and creative, a walking dictionary —or journal—of pop culture references, born in 1998, the debut year of Britney, and a sucker for nostalgia, music, and… playlists!!!

About me!

More than 200 curated playlists—and counting
Since I started using Spotify back in 2016,
I have created more than 200 playlists, each with a specific purpose, title, description,
and thumbnail. Most of them are still updated.

I am listening to music day 'n' nite, like, really.
When I say I can't live a day without listening to music, I really mean it.
And my Spotify Wrapped has the receipts.

During my teenage years, I was a Jessie J stan
I just wanna make the world cringe... but I can't run away from my teenager fan era.
For whatever reason I was really obsessed with her lol.

I still have the Who You Are CD displayed on the pop altar of my apartment, though.
I track my music listening activity
I've been using last.fm since 2019 to track my music activity.
Rosalía, Bad Gyal and Shirin David are the holy trinity of my profile, and they are also
the soundtrack to my Catalan roots and the (still ongoing) chapter of my life in Germany.

MY EXPERIENCE

Curating Playlists

Do you remember the first playlist you ever created?

I started making playlists shortly after joining Spotify in 2016. Back then, I simply grouped my most-played songs into yearly playlists.

Over time, I began creating playlists based on genres, moods, decades… Okay, so you’re a rocket scientist – as Shania Twain would say.

But it wasn’t until 2020 that I truly realized the power of playlists—not just as a way to organize music, but as a tool for capturing emotions and experiences, like a journal.

Now, curating playlists is part of my daily life

MY EXPERIENCE

Journaling

Writing is not your thing? Same here, but I’ve found my way to embrace it.

My journey with journaling goes hand in hand with realizing how playlists can be used to process my emotions and help me move on.

After starting therapy in 2020, I started integrating journaling as a self-regulation tool to gain self-awareness and untangle my thoughts and feelings in different chapters of my (slow) life.

I use different tools, such as a physical journal, my Notion space for journaling, and, of course, my playlists.

MY EXPERIENCE

Researching Music and Playlists

Do you believe in life after love music?

I don’t. That’s why I always try to make my life revolve around music. Besides having my headphones on all the time, I’m also hands-on with projects related to music (and playlists).

During my academic journey in digital media, I have written multiple papers on music in everyday life, pop music and queer identity, and music and well-being. I also dedicated an 8-month project to researching the practice of playlist curation among youth for my master’s thesis.

Rosalía did El Mal Querer as her final university project, and I came up with The Playlist Journal.

I GOTTA FEELING...

That today is gonna be a good day to get in touch!

Have you noticed any pop references on my website?

If so, I bet we can be a good match. Let me know how many you’ve spotted and contact me! The rest is still unwritten 🙂
