TALKING PLAYLISTS WITH...
Leith Ross
Welcome to “Talking Playlists With…”, a content series where I meet cool artists to reflect about music, playlists, and life!
This time I had the chance to join Leith Ross at their °1824 press conference with Universal Music Group, chat with them, and even ask a couple of questions 🙂
Meet Leith Ross
I can’t see the future, but if I could, I bet it has Leith Ross quietly becoming one of indie music’s most brilliant and sincere songwriters
The Canadian singer-songwriter first captured attention with their viral TikTok hit “We’ll Never Have Sex,” and followed up with their debut album To Learn in 2023. Now, their sophomore album I Can See the Future, produced by Rostam Batmanglij.
I Can See the Future is a record about questioning your human experience and finding comfort in exploring the answers, if they ever appear.
Leith blends intimate storytelling with philosophical coming-of-age reflections, inviting listeners to explore life, love, and the human connection with proactive curiosity and care.
"I just don’t want to sit back and wait for things to happen anymore — I want to work towards them, musically and personally, and be there for people in a real way.
Reflecting on human connection
X: 'Stay' is about learning to lean on others. What is something you have learned while making this new project that has helped you connect more with the people around you?
L: Writing Stay really encouraged me to be a more active community member and friend. I think we’ve gotten used to not seeking out community — we’re taught that individuality is what matters most — but I’ve been trying to fight that by showing up more and making connection part of my everyday life, even when it feels unnatural.
Through making this record, I built relationships that taught me a lot — like with Rostam. We didn’t know each other before working together, and now he’s a dear friend who’s helped me learn to advocate for myself and collaborate better.
Overall, I just don’t want to sit back and wait for things to happen anymore — I want to work towards them, musically and personally, and be there for people in a real way.

Xavi's Listening Notes
As someone in the LGBTQI+ community, I really connect with the queer perspective Leith brings. Queerness here isn’t just identity, it’s a lens for seeing the world and questioning everything.
Point of View is the highlight of the album for me. A classic feel-good love song with a twist. Leith realized that every love song they had ever written was from their own perspective, and they wanted to explore what it means to understand love through someone else’s eyes.
Sonically, Rostam’s production is delightful. Each song is crafted with care and attention to detail, enhancing the listening experience, like Dijon’s vocals on Stay.
This album makes me feel comforted. It creates a safe space to sit with my own feelings and reminds me that I am not alone.
