Discover New Artists Through Their Playlists
Welcome to “The Artist’s Playlist Journal”, a content series where emerging artists use playlist curation as a form of journaling.
This is how it works: the artists curate a playlist of 10 songs by other artists that inspire them, and answer a small journal with reflection questions about the moods and emotions inspiring their music, their artistic journey, and identity.

Gloomsy is a Berlin-based alt-pop hopecore artist writing songs that shimmer softly.
Singer, songwriter, and producer, she’s building slowly a world for hopeless romantics, who feel too much and dream even harder.
She’s currently finishing her third self-produced single and working on a danceable collab, all while figuring out what her sound wants to evolve into next.
“I want someone to stumble upon my song on a train ride — and feel like the world just got a little more magical.”
Behind the Playlist
How does this playlist reflect who you are as an artist?
Compared to my own music, the first half shows a slightly moodier, more experimental side, the second half a more euphoric and dancable one. To me, they all have a similar emotional identity though, which also truly reflects me as a person and my music too.
What mood or emotion did you want to capture?
Dreamy and hopeful, but at the same time nostalgic and bittersweet. I want to take the listener on a bit of a journey throughout the playlist so the order of songs is definitely intentional.
How do these songs connect to your current project?
That's a tough one, because when I start working on a song I never have any reference tracks in mind and I do not try to achieve a specific sound, I just let myself be guided by my own feelings in the moment.

Gloomsy's Journaling Session
If this playlist was a journal entry, what would you call it?
dreams at dawn
What did you discover about yourself or your music while curating this playlist?
How varied my influences are. If I would have tried to make this playlist a true reflection of my own taste it would have been a wild mix ranging from indie rock to kpop to techno. And how hard it is for me to name songs and artists that are actually sonically similar to my own.
What was your first instinct when starting this playlist — a feeling, a sound, a memory?
I wanted to chase the feeling first, while making sure I only pick songs that have been truly meaningful in my life and that also go well together.

Xavi's Listening Notes
While I didn’t discover her on a train, it only took a few seconds of Gloomsy’s latest single to transport me to a whimsical place. And my room definitely shimmered while listening to it ✨
Beyond my admiration for self-produced artists, I have deep respect for those who take the time to shape both their sound and their visual identity with care. Gloomsy is doing both. And that’s a big YES from me. <3
She only has two songs out so far, but they already invite you to want to stay in Gloomsy's hopecore world waiting for more.
Gloomsy wants her music to create meaningful moments for listeners. I have no doubt she’ll get there. So far, she has already made my series New Artist's Playlist Journal way more meaningful with her reflections 🙂
